If you’re feeling nervous or worried about coming into care, you’re not alone. We understand it’s a big change. At Benesse, we’ll support you from day one, listen to your concerns, and work together to help you settle in.
You have people here who care about you. The staff are here to make sure you feel safe and supported. We want you to know you will always have someone to talk to and someone who will try to understand what you’ve been through.
You’ll have your own bedroom that’s just for you, a private space you can make your own. Whether that’s with your favourite photos, things that remind you of home, or your style — you can personalise it to reflect who you are.
We’ll work closely with you and your family (and your social worker) to understand what helps you best. That means knowing what comforts you, what your needs are, and planning your care in ways that feel right, not just what others think is best.
There will be routines, rules, and boundaries — but all of that is there to help you feel safe, to help things run smoothly, and to make sure everyone’s treated fairly. We’ll explain these clearly and listen to your thoughts about them.
You’ll be involved in your decisions as much as possible — about school, activities, how your days are organised, whom you see and spend time with. We believe you know what matters to you best.
If you’ve had difficult or painful experiences, or you’re carrying hurt or trauma, we take that seriously. We work in a trauma‑informed and therapeutic way to help you heal — meaning staff have training, understand how trauma affects people, and aim to help you feel safe and build trust.
If ever you feel upset, unsafe or just want to talk, we are here. There are staff whose job it is to listen, support, and help you with how you feel. You don’t have to keep things inside and you are not alone.
You have rights. You have the right to be heard, to have privacy, to feel safe, and to understand how we use or share what you tell us. If things aren’t right, you can speak up, and we’ll help you understand how to do that.
We will help you stay connected with the people and things that matter — family, friends, school, or community. We’ll also support you to develop your own interests, try new things, and discover what you enjoy and what you’re good at.
Our goal is to help you build confidence, hope, and strength. We want to walk alongside you so you can believe in yourself, overcome barriers, and reach your potential.
